SMJK Poi Lam
Located in Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia, 1765 students, 105 teachers and support staff.
Poi Lam National-Type Secondary School, Ipoh was founded by the Perak Hock Kean Association in 1955. In the early years, the school started off with only three classrooms and an enrolment of 120 students. Then,in 1962 Poi Lam National-Type Secondary School was granted status as a government-aided school while Poi Lam Private Secondary School was set up to cater to popular demand by a larger growing student population then. Hence, this led on to the existence of three schools namely SMJK Poi Lam, Poi Lam Private Secondary School and SRK (C) Poi Lam a.k.a. Poi Lam Primary School, all located in the same compound at Douglas Road (now renamed Jalan Panglima Bukit Gantang Wahab ). Today, Poi Lam Private Secondary School is proud to have her own school building and compound in Pengkalan while her government-aided sister primary and secondary schools remain in the same vicinity. Our school motto is Li Yi Lian Chi ( 礼 义 廉 耻 ) meaning Virtues, Righteousness, Integrity, Conscience.
The school celebrated its golden jubilee in October, 2005. The first principal of the school was Mr Ng Cheng Aik who retired in 1976 after 21 years of service. Since then, several principals had served the school and a lot of improvements and upgrading works had been carried out for the overall benefit of students and teachers in the school. Ms Lim Swee Kew, the present principal of the school had now served one year in the school. She will be retiring in September, 2013.
